Ginger, our young southern gal takes her sister from a very unhealthy home life in Nashville and brings her to Chicago where they can hopefully live a better life. Derek is a Police Lieutenant living next door and he makes it more than difficult to be "normal".

Dirty talking, protective alpha has met his match with the feisty Ginger and her sister Willa. But there is something the girls are hiding. Will Derek find out and will he still feel the need to want to protect Ginger? Or will that be the last string of letting go? Will Ginger open up and share her past with this brooding stranger? Or are the girls still on their own having only faith and trust in each other??

Super-alpha male cop Derek meets plucky, loyal and innocent Ginger and in a ridiculously short time have lots of sex and fall in love. Throw in a token bit of storyline about a hobby which could become a career, a teenage romance and a dangerous situation (which no one actually was worried about) and you have a romance to please fans of cookie cutter novels and bored wives but no one else. Not my cup of tea.
So I'm a littele backwards in reading the Line of Duty and Crossing the line series. After reading Risking it All and Up In Smoke, I had to read about Ginger and Derek, Lol...I cannot say enough about how Ms. Bailey writes. Her words are thought provoking and written in such great detail that you have no choice but to see and feel every word as if you are physically there. These alpha males are OTT with such a tender and sweet side that it makes your heart melt for them each and every time. I also love the fact that the women, the heroines, in these stories are NOT TSTL and can hold out on their own. This book was filled with hilarious moments, along with the tug at your heartstrings. I loved learning about Derek and Ginger and will continue on with both series until I am all caught up. Loved it!

Absolutely FANTASTIC read)

OMG, how the hell have I not read this before!!!!!!! I LOVED every single second of this book. Once I started this today, I did NOT put it down, it was that addicting and sexy....omfg, let's talk HOT, SEXY, and oh so VERY DIRTY that I was squirming in my seat pretty much the ENTIRE read.

Derek, oh holy hell, this man....I don't even have enough words besides being PERFECT in every way and on every level) Holy wowza, now this man gives me a book boyfriend hangover for sure. He was all kinds of sexy, alpha, swoony, beautiful inside and out, PERFECT, yeah see, one word can only describe this man for me and it was PERFECT, he was perfection at it's finest)

Ginger, oh how I LOVED this feisty, sexy spitfire. Her bantering between Derek and Willa had me in stitches at times and had my kindle and panties ready to burst into flames the other times.

I adored EVERYTHING about this story and I mean E V E R Y S I N G L E thing, every page, every sentence, every word....see you get get it now, lol, everything.

OK, so what will I be reading next, well, without a doubt their follow up book Protecting What's Theirs of course, and I cannot wait) Tonight I will be consuming another Derek and Ginger story because I cannot get enough of them, that's why, hehehehe!
3.5 Stars. This was my first Tessa Bailey book. It centers around Ginger and her sister Willa who moved to Chicago to get away from her mother who was a drug addict and alcoholic. Ginger has taken care of her younger sister since she was a young girl and when she finds 50K in a bag when her mom is passed out she decides to take the money and run in order to give Willa a better life. She moves into a new apartment in Chicago that comes with a cranky but hot neighbor who also turns out to be a Chicago Police Detective, Derek Tyler. Derek meets Ginger for the first time when he is hung over and on the way to a funeral and they certainly don’t give each other a good first impression. However, Derek is intrigued and attracted to Ginger and he decides he wants her in his bed. He just doesn’t anticipate the level of involvement he ends up wanting in her life.
Derek is an Alpha male who has a take charge attitude and likes to talk dirty. (If you don’t like crude language during sex this isn’t the book for you). Ginger is a strong independent woman who stands up for herself and is very loyal to her sister. Although, she had a TSTL moment that drove me crazy she was a likeable character
It’s a short book with a good story and characters I enjoyed. Overall I liked this book and would try another book from this author.
