Beautifully written and an empathetic account of Lilian"s sad journey through life. Thoroughly believable and thought provoking. Another great read from this author.
A very enjoyable read. Combining an insight of Sydney as it used to be, with the inside of the minds of humans as they grow up in life. Well written, the story flows along, carrying the reader with it. I enjoyed following the thoughts of the main character who was not able to fit, or want to fit, into the mould of the society surrounding her.
One of the most brilliantly written, entertaining, and engrossing books I have ever read. I couldn't put it down!
I highly recommend this book. Kate Grenville is an exceptional author. I was drawn in completely from the
very first page. I fell asleep and woke up thinking about when I could pick it up again.
Loved this wonderfully written moving story. My second Kate Grenville book and can't wait to read her others.
After reading Kate Grenville's latest book One Life My Mother's Story. which I loved, I was drawn to Lillian's Story by her comment that the style in which she chose to write it from the perspective of a homeless woman. It is a sad story but also triumphant as Lillian speaks of her satisfaction with small things and her destiny in life.
Found this book to be a thoughtful, sensitive look at the life and times of the character Lil Singer. Beautifully written
This is an old Kate Grenville forgotten masterpiece from a time when she only wrote fiction and not historical fiction.Subtle and heartbreaking, it's my favourite.
